Dwarves are closely connected with the mountains and some even say that according to their own myths the queen is married to the mountain where she dwells.  Due to this connection, every Dwarf has an innate understanding of the properties of metal – some of our scholars claim that it is due to them consuming metals as we do food.  A rare few have been imbued with the magical properties of the different metals and are able to produce swords, armor, pickaxes and good quality cauldrons.  According to Paetus, it is their loss of a carapace that makes the Dwarfs love a strong armor so highly."
