newmonster "Eagle King"
descr "Although the winged people call themselves the Airya, it is a name that is rarely heard, and more often than not mispronounced by their representative on the ground. By the ignorant populace they are often called the winged ones. However, such a name would be utterly ridiculous as it could refer to anything from bees to demons. My learned colleague, Betram the Loud, has suggested calling them Cloudites, but such a name would indicate that they are one people, when they are more often than not confined to an ancient cloud castle and a few neighboring villages. I will therefore use the name Cloud Dwellers, a name I have often suggested in our taxonomic debates.^ That said, at times a Cloud Lord will rise to such splendor that he unites all the cloud citadels and commands scores of cloud dwelling creatures.^ Perched in the highest tower, the beautiful Eagle King is served the choicest bits of food by young male and female servants of all species. Rumors have it that the Eagle King will mate with the most beautiful of his servants regardless of species, be they Man, Kobold or Cloud Dweller. Such is the beauty of the Eagle King that our own diplomat in the cloud city was seduced by the looks of the king, even though his speech was that of a blathering idiot.^ The rule of an Eagle King often ends as abruptly as it started, as the Cloud Dwellers are fickle creatures, just like the clouds around them."
